The forest was dark and dreamy as Vestain angled in and out of oddly placed tree trunks, rising up land towering overhead to cover the forest around in a shroud of shade. He looked upward and he walked alone, pondering the random thoughts that crossed his mind. He hoped his newfound treasure was safe, wherever she may be now. The Blue Moon was fast approaching, and he did not think he could ever forgive himself if something happened to her. He ought to go out and find her himself just to be sure she was safe, but something stopped him. She might think that was too bold of him, she may shy away if he acted so quickly upon his feelings. His doubtful mind held his heart at bay, along with his training. He knew he must not panic...panic always led to hasty decisions and regretful courses of action. Delaney was an adult, older even than he, and she could take care of herself, he scolded himself. He was sure of it...
He focused back on his surroundings at present. The forest was restless, animals scattering in his wake, birds chirping quietly, nervously even up in the branches above him. He swiveled his ears, trying to detect the sound of another presence. There were the tell tale signs of the usual woodland creatures, the scratching of talons upon twigs, a snapping branch upon the forest floor....that caught his attention. He halted in his tracks, turned his arched neck, and peered behind him toward the direction the sound had come from. Somewhere behind him another was following, or perhaps had been hiding and waiting for him to pass by, unseen. Vestain's senses were more alert now, though, honed from years of survival and practice. He had missed the scent of the other horse, a stallion he could tell, before because he had let his thoughts drift off and his mind wander. A moment of absence was all it took to wind up ambushed and taken by surprise, Vestain told himself. He was fortunate he hadn't payed the ultimate price for such carelessness...he needed to maintain a stronger discipline over his mind. He had grown complacent since his arrival here, and he didn't want to become rusty, no matter what deserved his attention. He valued his life. He gazed cautiously into the forest beyond, focusing on what he discovered to be two eyes gazing right back at him. The face was hostile, rugged, fierce even. But, as the face came into vision, Vestain took note that the owner of the menacing visage was not a shade. He was not friendly, but he did not have the quality of ultimately no emotions, or any other intentions besides wicked ones. Vestain turned and angled himself toward the stallion, laying his ears back flat as he mentally assessed the threat. 'Come out of the shadows, if you intend no ill will. Who are you?'

Hadez slowly turned his head. Trying to place where he was. For he did not know. He slowly put one hoof in front of the other slowly he made his way to the other stallion, head held high. He's fiery mane glowing and blowing in the breeze of the night. His red eyes taking profile of the stallion in front of him. The stallion was also black. He had strange markings on his face and body, like nothing Hadez had ever seen before. About a foot away from the stallion, he stopped. "I am Hadez." he said, his voice low. "And you are?"

The other horse stepped forward and Vestain took him in. He was strong, fit, healthy looking. Perhaps this one had more to him than meets the eye, though. His words seemed compliant enough, despite the flames flickering in his eyes, dancing as he took in the world. Vestain held his ground, though, unsure of what the other horse's exact intentions and motives were. How he operated was still a mystery, and this could be a guise of submission intended to lure Vestain closer so as to attack. Vestain was on guard though, prepared for anything. He always was, well, nearly always. It was the one thing he was good at. Analyzing situations and detecting paths of operation.
He lifted his head, taking the dominant role and flicking his ears forward intently. His voice rang out through the forest, 'Vestain is the name I answer to. You're new here?'

Hadez blinked. Taking in the question. He was new.... to this place. New to Earth? He was about five years old or so. He lost track. Everything had been a blur since his father. He slowly nodded his head. Yes. I am new to this place. He answered. He surprised on how loud his voice was. It felt like it had been days since he last had water. He came back to the present. And I highly doubt you are new here. You seemed to have been on a mission before you saw me, a million miles away. Hadez eyes dance with delight.

Vestain leveled his gaze with the other stallion, absorbing his words and calculating any underlying intentions that may be nestled in between the lines. He was new here, and it seemed a little obvious. This Hadez did not seem very aware his surroundings, was a tad nervous looking, edgy even. As if he wasn't entirely sure what could be lurking just around the next bend in the road, a stranger to the forest. In one sense, Vestain sympathized with him. Upon first arriving in this land, it had been slightly intimidating with its rumors of shades and whispered mentions of a curse lurking sinisterly about; but in the end, he had settled right in. The shades were out there, but he had met one and he didn't think they were quite as 'scary' as everyone made them out to be, though that was not to think too lightly on them either. Perhaps, with his personal history, it just took a little bit more to daunt him. 'I am neither new here nor at home here; I suppose I am familiar here.' He replied nonchalantly. It was true enough - he had been here for a few months now, but not quite long enough to feel like he knew every nook and cranny, or every face that passed him by. Perhaps, this was the kind of place you never knew completely. That thought was enticing, to say the least. Always a new adventure just off in the distance, biding its time until you stumbled upon it at last. Vestain stiffened at the stallion's enquiries though. He had been asking the questions, but it seemed Hadez was not afraid to turn the tables in the slightest. He was either incredibly bold, or incredibly foolish. Time would only tell. 'A mission is not quite the right word for it. I simply have a purpose.' Vestain replied stonily, not sure he wanted to go into detail about his need to locate his heart's desire. He just somehow felt like something unseemly was going to happen, especially if he wasn't there to defend his Delaney. The idea unsettled him further, and he glanced upward at the moon to check. There was a little time....but it would be wasted.
